Schalke Rising Star Ahmed Kutucu Opts To Play For Turkey Despite Being Eligible For Germany

Schalke 04 rising star Ahmed Kutucu has opted to represent Turkey at senior international level despite having the option to play for Germany.

The young striker has been called up to the senior Turkish national team side and is expected to be capped for the first time in the final Euro 2020 Group H qualification game against Andorra on Sunday.

Kutucu was born in Germany but played for Turkey at youth level as he was eligible through his parents.

The 19-year-old has risen through the youth ranks at Schalke to become a first-team player.

The young forward has one goal and one assist in seven games for Schalke in all competitions this season.

Kutucu had two goals in 13 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit last term.

The Schalke starlet rose through the youth ranks of the U19 side under the stewardship of highly acclaimed youth coach Norbert Elgert.

Elgert has been in charge of the Schalke under-19 side since 1996 and is responsible for producing some of the greatest talents in Germany football including Julian Draxler, Benedikt Howedes, Manuel Neuer, Mesut Ozil, Max Meyer and Leroy Sane.
