Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone admitted that he is wary of Bayer Leverkusen’s speed ahead of the Champions League Last 16 second-leg game.

“Bayer are a vertical team, they play very direct football. They have great speed in their forward line – we have to avoid the situations we couldn’t avoid in the first leg,” Simeone told the official UEFA website.

Atleti lost the first-leg at the BayArena 1-0 but have the chance to make amends at the Vicente Calderon stadium.

Simeone underlined that he expects his side to win and exploit Bayer’s weaknesses.

“Our goal is to win. We must be quick in the transition when they lose the ball,” he added.

The La Liga champions reached the final of the Champions League last season.

Simeone will be without Godín (suspended), Tiago (suspended), Saúl Ñíguez (back), Siqueira (hamstring).

Turkish international Arda Turan is expected to start for Atleti.

Bayer’s Turkish stars Ömer Toprak and Hakan Çalhanoğlu are also likely to be in the starting lineup.
