Super Lig giants remain ahead of Liverpool in UEFA club rankings following Champions League Matchday 2

Besiktas became the first Turkish side to win their first two Champions League games after defeating Red Bull Leipzig 2-0.

The Black Eagles also beat German opposition for the first time in European competition.

The reigning Super Lig champions ended Match Day 2 in first place on six points, having scored five goals and conceded just once.

The victory kept Besiktas in 34th position in the UEFA ranking for club competitions above Liverpool who remained in 35th place following their 1-1 draw against Spartak Moscow.

The rankings are based on an average tally over each clubs last five seasons in European competition.

Based on this seasons point tally Besiktas have moved up into 8th place from 12th position at the end of Match Day 1.

Liverpool were 13th at the end of Match Day 1 but have now moved into 11th place.

The Istanbul giants will take on Trabzonspor next in the Super Lig, before facing Genclerbirligi and then Monaco in France on Champions League Matchday 3.
