Lyon eliminated defending Turkish league champions Besiktas from the Europa League on penalties.

Besiktas forced the game into extra-time after making the score 2-1 at the Vodafone Arena at the end of the 90 minutes.

The game was tightly poised with a 3-3 aggregate scoreline.

Lyon ended up winning the penalty shoot out in sudden death following a miss from Besiktas defender Mitrovic.

CEO of the Ligue 1 outfit Jean-Michel Aulas revealed after the game that the clash was a tough game and that his side have grown more experienced as a result.

“It was a great game and I am so proud of the boys, we fought to the very end earned a psychological victory which will make us strong going forwards,” Aulas said speaking to Turkish reporters after the game.

Aulas also reveled that he thinks Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho wants to face his side in the semi-finals.

“I am sure Jose Mourinho wants us, as for me I do not really care, I would not mind Manchester United in the final,” he added.

The Europa League semi-final draw will take place today in the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

Lyon could draw one of United, La Liga outfit Celta Vigo or Eredivisie giants Ajax.
