‘Surely Even They Cannot Slip Up This Time’ – Mark Lawrenson gives his prediction for the Liverpool vs Middlesbrough clash

Liverpool take on Middlesbrough in their final Premier League game of the campaign needing a win to guarantee a top-four finish.

Anything other than a victory could allow Arsenal to overtake them and push them out of the running for a Champions League spot.

The Reds have been in good form of late but they have struggled against teams in the bottom half of the table more than those in the current top-six.

In this weeks Mark Lawrenson prediction for the Liverpool clash he did allude to the Reds having a reputation for slipping up in big games but still through the Reds should be able to get overt the finish line with a win.

Middlesbrough have already been relegated and will only have pride to play for.

Lawrenson wrote the following on the BBC: “A win for Liverpool will secure a top-four finish and surely even they cannot slip up this time.

It is all very well saying because Middlesbrough are down already, the pressure is off them and they can go to Anfield and play their football – well, I have not seen Boro play any for the past 37 games.”

Lawro’s prediction: 2-0

Liverpool will be without team captain Jordan Henderson but Turkish origin midfielder Emre Can is available and almost certain to start.

The 23-year-old midfielder has started the Reds last 12 games, only two of which have ended in defeat.
