Newcastle United appear to be leading the race to sign Fenerbahce star defender Martin Skrtel.
According to the daily Turkish newspaper Takvim, Newcastle sent officials to Istanbul in a bid to complete a deal to sign the Slovakia international.
Fenerbahce are understood to be happy to let Skrtel leave this summer as they look to reduce their wage bill.
The experienced defender is no stranger to Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez who signed him to Liverpool during his spell in charge of the Merseyside based club.
However, Newcastle fans don’t appear to be happy about reports linking their club with a move for Skrtel.
It’s safe to say The Toon supporters believe they already have better options in defence than Skrtel. Some fans also fear Skrtel is being brought in as a replacement for star performer Jason Lascelles.

Skrtel has a year remaining on his current contract with Fenerbahce. The 33-year-old provided one assist and scored three goals in 30 appearances for Fenerbahce in all competitions this season.
