Tottenham rejected return of £17m star striker on transfer deadline day

Tottenham rejected Fenerbahce’s request to terminate Vincent Janssen’s loan-deal on transfer deadline day.

The Netherlands international joined the Istanbul giants on a season-long loan over the summer but has struggled with injuries this season.

According to the Turkish outlet Fanatik, Fenerbahce wanted to terminate Janssen’s loan-deal and sign former AC Milan defender Gabriel Paletta.

However, the move fell through when they were unable to free up a foreign player space to sign the experienced defender.

Fenerbahce are on the hunt for a new defender following injuries injury to both Martin Skrtel and Luis Neto.

Recent reports from Turkey suggest that Janssen is facing up to three months out with a toe injury. The 23-year-old may even miss out on first-team football for the rest of the season.

Janssen joined Tottenham for £17 million from AZ Alkmaar back in 2016.

Fenerbahce are back in action this weekend when they take on Genclerbirligi. Tottenham meanwhile face an in-form Liverpool.
