Tottenham have received a boost in their pursuit of Mehmet Topal following reports stating that the Turkish international is set to leave Fenerbahce in the summer.
The Turkish sports channel NTV have stated that Topal will leave the Istanbul giants after failing to agree a new deal.
NTV have reported that Fenerbahce are holding talks with 12 players who’s contracts end in July, but Topal is not one of the players who will be offered a new deal.
Topal has reached an agreement-in-principle with Tottenham according to the Fanatik sports newspaper. his agent Batur Altiparmak is however, remaining coy over the latest transfer rumour and refused to rule out the possibility that he may leave.
Altiparmak told Turkish-football.com: “Everybody writes something different every other day so I am not going to respond to every transfer rumour.
“Let us wait until the end of the season and see what happens.”
Topal is one of the few players to have won the league title with both Galatasaray and Fenerbahce. The experienced midfielder also has experience playing for Valencia and is a regular in the Turkish national team setup.
