Turkey draw Portugal in FIFA 2022 Qatar World Cup playoffs semi-final

Turkey have draw Portugal in the FIFA 2022 Qatar World Cup playoff semi-final.

The draw took place on Friday and say Turkey who qualified for the playoffs as runners-up in Group G to leaders Netherlands draw European giants Portugal.

The Netherlands topped the group with 23 points from 10 games while Turkey finished second with 21 points.

Norway ended the group in third place with 18 points.

The winner of the Turkey-Portugal clash will host the fina round game in Path C.

Portugal will play the game at home as the seeded team. The single leg match will be played on 24 March 2022.

Turkey could end up facing reigning European Championship winners Italy or North Macedonia.

Portugal have starred in every major championship since missing out on the 1998 World Cup.

Turkey meanwhile, have not qualified for a World Cup since the 2002 tournament which they finished in third-place – their greatest achievement on the world stage.

The Turkish side are coached by Stefan Kuntz who turned around Turkey’s qualification campaign after replacing Senol Gunes.

Under Kuntz Turkey drew one and won three of their last four qualification games to qualify for the playoffs.
