Turkish giants hold preliminary talks with striker nearing £9m Newcastle transfer in bid to hijack move

Fenerbahce have entered the race for Porto striker Vincent Aboubakar according to reports in Turkey.

Turkish sports newspaper Fanatik claim that the Yellow Canaries have entered preliminary talks with the striker.

Per the source, early talks went well and Fenerbahce are making efforts to sign the striker from under the feet of rivals Besiktas.

Besiktas and Fenerbahce are however, facing competition from Newcastle United.

In fact Newcastle are currently favourites to sign the 25-year-old with the Daily Star  reporting that he is nearing a £9 million move.

Aboubakar did spend last season on loan at Besiktas where he established himself as a fan favourite.

The Turkish league champions are keen on signing Aboubakar on a permanent deal and have also entered talks.

Besiktas club official Metin Albayrak was quoted by Turkish-Football as saying: “We want Aboubakar and have entered talks, there are lots of rumours but our negotiations are continuing.”

Aboubakar scored 19 goals for the Istanbul giants last season despite missing part of the campaign due to African Cup of Nations duty with Cameroon – where he scored the wining goal against Egypt in the final.

If Besiktas miss out on signing Aboubakar a move to Newcastle would not cause much of a stir however, were he to join Fenerbahce it would prove hugely controversial.

The rivalry between Fenerbahce and Besiktas has been growing over the past few seasons.

The Eagles signed Gokhan Gonul from Fenerbahce which angered the fans. The Yellow Canaries responded by signing Ismail Koybasi from Besiktas.
