Turkish League Previews & Predictions 18: The Super Lig Returns

Galatasaray cesc fabregas

The Super Lig is back after a lengthy winter break.

The 18th round of the 2017-18 Super Lig season is about to kick off with just six points separating the top six.

Our current record for picks stand at 48 wins 29 loss.

Karabukspor vs Genclerbirligi

A crapshoot between two last placed teams in the league. No thanks!

Osmanlispor vs Malatyaspor

Under normal circumstances I would back Malatyaspor but Osmanlispor have won five of their last six games at home and with this being the first game back after a lengthy break it is really difficult to call this one.

Fenerbahce vs Goztepe

Aykut Kocaman looks to have finally got his team to settle. Fenerbahce have gone 14 games without defeat. The Yellow Canaries have actually won nine of their last 10 games in all competitions. Despite being in great form I remain skeptical. The Istanbul only real tough game they have played was away to Bursaspor – which they won. The remaining game are ones you would expect them to win. Goztepe present a far tough proposition. Now it is worth noting that Fenerbahce are at home and have been priced accordingly but Goztepe did hold them to a draw at the start of the season. The visitors will be no pushovers.

Fenerbahce could struggle to break down the visitors. Vincent Janssen is injured, Roberto Soldado is misfiring and Robin van Persie has left.

Prediction: Under 2.5 goals

Sivasspor vs Akhisar

Like every season when winter striker Sivas the central Anatolian based side become one of the toughest away fixtures in the league. Expect freezing temperatures and snow. Few sides are used to the conditions but the Yigidolar sure are.

Prediction: Sivasspor Win

Konyaspor vs Trabzonspor

A storm is brewing! Trabzonspor have been on fire since firing Ersun Yanal, rising up the table, closing the gap with 4th placed Besiktas to just one point. I do not expect Konyaspor to put up much resistance against the visitors.

Prediction: Trabzonspor -0 (Draw No Bet)

Bursaspor vs Basaksehir

Against all the odds, to most peoples surprise Basaksehir ended up signing Barcelona man Arda Turan. Considering he has not played at all this season I am not sure what condition the bearded one is in but moving forwards he could play a key role in the Istanbul minnows title run. Bursaspor away is never easy. Do not expect Basaksehir to roll the Green Crocodiles over. I smell an upset.

Prediction: Bursaspor -0 (Draw No Bet)

Antalyaspor vs Besiktas

Besiktas have been busy training in Antalya over the winter so it has become a bit of a second home. The Black Eagles sold Cenk Tosun to Everton in January but have yet to find a replacement. Alvaro Negredo has a great opportunity to show the board that they may already have the man to field Tosun’s void. As for Antalyaspor… well they have been pretty hopeless.

Prediction: Besiktas Win

Kayserispor vs Galatasaray

Kayserispor have developed a reputation as giant stoppers this season. Besiktas, Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor have found out the hard way that Kayseri are not to be taken lightly. In fact they are unbeaten against top four sides this season. It is also worth noting that the temperature will be below freezing at kick-off. The central Anatolian region receives harsh winters unlike coastal regions which are still pretty pleasant. Galatasaray are favorites on paper but this will not be easy, not by a long shot.

Kayserispor -0 (Draw No Bet)
