Turkish players who will play in the 2018 World Cup

While Turkey may not have made it to this summers World Cup in Russia, there are still several Turkish players who will be participating.

The Turkey national team failed to qualify for the World Cup in Russia after finishing fourth in Group I behind Ukraine, Croatia and Iceland.

Mesut Ozil (Germany)

The most high profile player of Turkish descent participating in this summers competition is undoubtedly Mesut Ozil. The 29-year-old experienced a turbulent club campaign but did star during Germany’s World Cup win back in 2014.

Ilkay Gundogan (Germany)

Another German player of Turkish descent who will play for Germany this summer is Ilkay Gundogan. The 27-year-old was an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s Man City side but is yet to cement a place in Joachim Low’s starting XI.

Aziz Behich (Australia) 

Bursaspor left-back Aziz Behich – who’s family originate from Northen Cyprus – has been included in Bert van Marwijk’s 23-man squad. The explosive left-back has spent the last five seasons in the Turkish Super Lig and is expected to start for Australia when they take on France this weekend.
