Turks Abroad: Cengiz Under Makes Roma History, Liverpool Star Involved In Rugby Tackle, Everton Striker Suffers More Misery

Cengiz Under

Cengiz Under became the first Turkish international player to score for Roma over the weekend. It took Cengiz a few months to open his account. As luck would have it he actually ended up scoring his first goal inside the first minute against Verona. What a goal as well! The rising star dribbled past an opposition defender before rifling the ball into the back of the net from outside the area. Roma went on to win the game. The 20-year-old has now started the Gialorossos last four games. As we said last week he is beginning to establish himself as a first-team player and that the only thing missing was a goal. Well, he has one of those now. And a memorable one.

Caglar Soyuncu

Under’s former Altinordu teammate continues to make a name for himself in the Bundesliga. Soyuncu helped Freiberg keep a clean sheet in the goalless draw again Bayer Leverkusen. The 21-year-old made three tackles, two clearances, won two aerial balls in another stellar defensive display.

Emre Can

Can was involved in a controversial game against Tottenham which saw Spurs awarded a dubious penalty only to miss. Mohamed Salah went onto score what looked to be the winner before the North London based side won another debatable spot kick to equalize.

The midfielder of Turkish origin was involved in a bizarre debate over the penalty call with the referees.

He also decided to rugby tackle Dembele.

First of all, here is the tackle in all its glory.

Mesut Ozil

Mesut Ozil extended his contract to 2021 mid-week, becoming the highest paid player in Arsenal history.

The playmaker did not score or provide an assist against the Toffees but he was still singled out for praise by the Gunners faithful.

Cenk Tosun

Tosun’s Premier League dream is beginning to turn to a nightmare. Sam Allardyce decided to drop the Turkey international for Niasse yet again. The Toffees went onto lost 5-1 against Arsenal. Time to try Tosun again perhaps? not according to Big Sam! It now appears the 26-year-old may not end up an Everton starter until the end of the season.

Omer Toprak

Borussia Dortmund beat FC Koln 3-2 on the road. Despite conceding twice Toprak did put on a pretty solid display. The Turkey international was imperious in the air winning an impressive five aerial balls and making a staggering 16 clearances.
