Turks Abroad: Everton Star Struggling, Cengiz Under Goes From Strength To Strength At Roma, Emre Can Divides Opinion At Liverpool

Cengiz Under Tottenham Manchester City

Cengiz Under – Roma

Well I have been saying for the past few weeks that all the boy needs is a goal to get going. Cengiz went from being so ‘under-rated’ to the ‘under-taker’ of Benevento. The boy wonder is starting to live up to his price tag. The 21-year-old put on another stellar display, tearing the opposition into pieces, scoring twice and providing his first assist of the season. The Turkey international now has three goals and an assist in his last two games. The rising star has also started Roma’s last five games. It looks like he has finally won over the trust of head coach Stefano De Francesco. I still think he has a lot more to give to the Giauluraco.

Emre Mor – Celta Vigo

Emre Mor went from total obscurity to being labelled the Turkish Messi before being dubbed the greatest flop since the last player to be compared to the Argentinian magician. Anyway, Mor looks like he is starting to get back on track. There was no denying his obvious talents but his mentality was questionable – and that is being kind. The Turkey international provided his first assist of the season, setting up Maxi Lopez in the 2-2 draw against Espanyol. Despite playing for just 16 minutes, no other player managed to complete more successful dribbles (3).

Emre Can – Liverpool

The midfielder of Turkish origin was named captain heading into the Southampton game. The Reds went onto win the clash 2-0 at the St Mary’s Stadium but not everyone was convinced by the 24-year-old. It was not a memorable performance, he only achieved a 79 percent pass accuracy but did defend well and work hard. I get the sneaking suspicion that the actual problem some Liverpool fans have is his contract issue. Can will be a free agent at the end of the season unless he extends his current deal. Should a player who could be leaving in a few months be named captain? that is one for Jurgen Klopp to answer.

Omer Toprak – Borussia Dortmund

Omer was imperious against HSV. A human wall. The Turkey international had more touches on the ball (115), made more passes (80), made more interceptions (4) and won more aerial balls (7) than any other player as Dortmund kept a clean sheet in the 2-0 victory.

Cenk Tosun – Everton

Cenk has not started for the past three games now. Big Sam has dropped the former Besiktas man for Oumar Niasse. The Senegal international scored and provided an assist in the 3-1 win over Crystal Palace. It looks like the January arrival will be on the bench for the foreseeable future if Niasse keeps firing.
