West Ham manager Slaven Bilic believes that he landed the Premier League job after the way his Beşiktaş side performed against English opposition last season.
Bilic was in charge of the Black Eagles for the last two seasons and guided the Istanbul giants to victory over Tottenham in the Europa League and knocked Liverpool out of the Round of 32 in the same competition.
“I have got to admit the reason I am currently working in the Premier League is because of Beşiktaş,” Bilic told Fanatik.
“Our performances against Arsenal, Tottenham and especially beating Liverpool made people take notice in England.”
Bilic reveals that his Beşiktaş team got a standing ovation from Tottenham fans following their performance against Spurs in the Premier League.
“Tottenham fans applauded us on their feet in London and West Ham were keeping tabs on the game,” he added.
“I was so proud of the boys and what we achieved I will always love Beşiktaş.”
Beşiktaş reached the Europa League quarter-finals last season but were eventually knocked out by Belgium giants Club Brugge.
The Black Eagles finished the league campaign in third place despite not having a home stadium the entire season.
Bilic has hit the ground running in England beating Premier League giants Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City already this season.
