Liverpool got revenge on Manchester City following their League Cup final defeat on penalties over the weekend by beating the Citizens 3-0 at Anfield.
The Reds got off to a brilliant start when James Milner setup Adam Lallana with the opener on 34 minutes. Milner doubled the home sides lead just five minutes later to give Liverpool a two goal cushion at half-time.
Firminho – who assisted Milner’s goal – wrapped up all three points on 57 minutes and as luck would have it Milner provided the assist.
Emre Can was the only Liverpool player to score a penalty on the weekend and what a penalty it was. The 22-year-old found the back of the net with a cheek panenka.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp decided to keep Can in his starting lineup against City and he was in impressive form yet again both defensively as well as going forwards.
Can made the highest number of tackles (7) and the most interceptions in midfield (4) he also happened to make more successful dribbles going forwards than any other player (2).
The victory saw Liverpool move into eight place on 41 points. Meanwhile City kept their place in fourth position but rivals Manchester United are not trailing on goal difference and West Ham moved just one point behind the Citizens.
