Watch: Sunderland Star Misses Key Chance In Istanbul Derby Clash Just One Day After Striking Summer Deal With Besiktas

Besiktas were held to a 2-2 draw in the Turkish Cup semi-final first-leg clash against Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce at the Vodafone Park stadium.

The outcome of the derby could have been different had Sunderland loanee Jeremain Lens not squandered a potentially game changing chance.

Fenerbahce midfielder Alper Potuk had just been sent off. The Yellow Canaries were on the ropes. Lens launched a counter-attack at breakneck speed.

The Netherlands international had the option to take on the keeper one-on-one or pass to one of three Besiktas players.

At one stage they outnumbered the sole Fenerbahce defender three on one.

Lens ended up being selfish and taking too long on the ball.

Fenerbahce made an interception and went up the other end to score despite being down to 10 men.

Lens is still a Sunderland player but will complete his transfer to Besiktas on a permanent move in June.
