“We always hope” – Arsenal boss Wenger provides Alexis Sanchez & Ozil contract update

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Alexis Sanchez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mesut Ozil will all remain at Arsenal beyond this summer.

The French tactician is also hopeful that the trio will put pen-to-paper on a new deal with the north London-based club.

Ozil, Chamberlain and Sanchez all have under 12 months remaining on their current contracts with Arsenal.

“Of course (I stand by the fact Sanchez won’t leave),” Wenger was quoted a saying by SkySports.

“It’s difficult to say (players are getting) ‘power back’. I just think it looks unusual to the media sometimes that clubs want contracts to be respected. For me, it looks logical so I am amazed that you are amazed because it looks normal.

“If I sign a contract, I respect it. Of course if a club releases me it’s normal that I can go somewhere else. I know when I signed for two years at Arsenal, it’s a contract and I have to respect it.”

“We always wanted to keep Sanchez and we always hope, even now, that we can extend the contracts of Sanchez, Chamberlain, Ozil.”

Germany international Ozil played a starring role during Arsenal’s 4-3 victory over Leicester City last weekend. Oxlade-Chamberlain also played the full 90 minutes on Friday night.

Sanchez meanwhile missed last week’s clash due to an abdominal injury and is an injury doubt going into this weekend’s clash.

Ozil, Chamberlain and Sanchez could leave Arsenal for free next summer if the north London-based club are unable to strike new deal’s with the trio.

The Gunners take on Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday, kick-off is scheduled for 17:30 (GTM).
