“We will see” – Maurizio Sarri urges Chelsea star to remain at Stamford Bridge amid interest from Champions League side

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has urged in-demand centre-back, Gary Cahill, to remain at Stamford Bridge.

The former England international was a first-team regular at Chelsea under Antonio Conte last season. However, since the appointment of Sarri, Cahill has seen himself fall down the pecking order behind Antonio Rudiger, David Luis and Andreas Christensen.

Cahil was closely linked with a move to Galatasaray over the summer. The Istanbul giants have also maintained their interest in Cahil and are understood to be plotting a January move.

Sarri has maintained that Cahill is an important member of Chelsea’s squad and that he has held talks with the experienced defender regarding his future.

“I’ve spoken with him [Cahill],” Sarri told reporters at Chelsea’s pre-game press conference.

There’s October, November and December, so I think he has to wait. I was very happy with the performance of Cahill [against Liverpool].

“And so now Gary for me is very useful. January is far from now, so we will see.

“We’ve still October, November and December.”

Cahil could end up leaving Chelsea for free at the end of the season. The 32-year-old’s contract with the Blues expires next summer.

Chelsea are back in action tonight in the Europa League when they take on Videoton. The Blues next Premier League fixture is up against Southampton.
