“Why is he getting attracted to the ball?” Arsenal star singled out for critical mistake during defeat to Tottenham

Mesut Ozil

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has received criticism for his role in Tottenham’s winning goal on Saturday.

Spurs moved up into third place in the Premier League following their 1-0 win in the north London derby.

Star striker Harry Kane scored the games only goal early on in the second half.

Ozil started the game out on the right-wing and drifted inward’s prior to Tottenham’s goal. BT Sport pundits believe the Germany international’s decision to vacate the right-wing allowed Tottenham extra space to mount the attack with lead to a goal.

“I think Ozil’s decision here isn’t the right one to go inside there,” ex-Tottenham midfielder Jermain Jenas told BT Sport.

“He should be staying with Ben Davies or at least occupying that space.

“He gave Davies the time to get his head up and pick out Harry Kane.

“But saying all of that, that’s one of the best headers you are likely to see this season.”

Former Arsenal centre-back Martin Keown agreed with Jenas.

“Ozil, why is he getting attracted to the ball?, Keown stated.

“It just leaves Davies with so much space.”

Ozil recently put pen-to-paper on a new three-year deal with the north London based club. The 29-year-old is the highest paid player in Arsenal’s history.

The Gunners are back in action on Thursday night in the Europa League when they take on Swedish side Ostersunds FK.
