Yesterday several publications across Europe reported that Portuguese giants Benfica were interested in signing Everton’s Cenk Tosun this summer.
As we noted when we also reported the story, it seemed extremely unlikely that Tosun would consider a move away from the Premier League after working so hard to earn a move to Everton.
And it seems the confusion regarding the story was kicked off by the Portuguese outlet A Bola who cited the Turkish outlet Fotomac.
However, upon reading the original Fotomac article, Everton are not mentioned while Benfica’s interest in Tosun is referred to in the past-tense (prior to his Everton move).
Nevertheless, this did not stop several Everton fans taking to social media and reacting to the story. Surprisingly they seem open to the idea of a swap deal for Talisca.
No deal should be contemplated unless Everton can acquire a better striker than Cenk to replace him. I only wish we could have swapped Rom with Diego Costa last Summer rather than sell him to Man U.

Cenk – who netted a brace against Stoke City a fortnight ago – is expected to be back in action this weekend when Everton take on Manchester City on Sunday.
