Arsenal legend Gilberto Silva reveals thoughts on Mesut Ozil, Xhaka & Lacazette

Former Arsenal star Gilberto Silva has revealed his thoughts on some of Arsenal’s star players.

Silva was part of the infamous ‘Invincibles’ team which won the Premier League title without losing a single game. The former Brazil international was a first-team regular in that 2003/04 title-winning squad.

Arsenal could currently do with a player of Silva’s ability in midfielder. The north London-based club suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat at the hands of Stoke City over the weekend.

Silva on Mesut Ozil

Silva heaped praise on Mesut Ozil and is delighted that the World Cup winner will be staying this season.

“Ozil has done so well for the club, so I was happy that he listened to those around him and decided to stay at the club,” Silva told 888Sport.

“Year on year he is getting better and better, with his ability always improving.

“It’s so important that he gets the support of those around him as well, to let him do what he does best. The team are supporting him a lot on the field, to help him produce what is expected of him.”

Silva on Granit Xhaka

Silva also revealed his thoughts regarding last season’s signing Granit Xhaka.

“Xhaka is now adapting to the Premier League, and to how Arsene [Wenger] wants things to be done.”

“I’ve watched his last few games for the club and I’m happy with how he’s progressing. This season is going to be very important to him but also to Arsenal, because having him as a strong figure in the middle of the park gives them someone to break up play when it is necessary. He is capable of that.”

Silva on Lacazette

The Brazilian former midfielder also believes Alexandre Lacazette was a good transfer for Arsenal.

“Lacazette has started well in my opinion. Arsenal spent big money on him, so there were always going to be big expectations,” Silva stated.

“I’m sure he is getting the support of his team-mates and Arsene Wenger but he also needs the fans to support him.”

“If he gets that support and feels embraced, he thinks “okay, I am being embraced, now I must give something back”. He will do well for the club.”

Arsenal will be looking to return to winning ways this weekend when they take on Liverpool at Anfield.
