Arsenal £42m record signing future ‘depends’ on Arsene Wenger, says Michael Ballack

Arsenal star playmaker Mesut Ozil’s future at the north London club may depend on Arsene Wenger, according to Michael Ballack.

The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich star has stated that Ozil may be waiting to see if the experinced French tactician extends his stays at Arsenal before deciding his own future.

Ozil joined Arsenal from Real Madrid back in September 2013 for a club record £42.4 million (BBC).

Ozil recently revealed that he will hold talks with Arsenal ‘soon‘ regarding a new contract. Ballack believes Ozil has a good relationship with Wenger and wants to know if the French tactician will stay before putting pen-to-paper on a new deal.

“It is difficult to say really (if he should stay at Arsenal),” Ballack told Sky Sports.

“A player like him, who has played for Real Madrid and now Arsenal and who knows the Premier League and La Liga, he has his own feeling and experience.

“And there are not many clubs where he can go now and who can afford him. I think he needs to feel comfortable with the decision that he makes.

“But it also depends on what Arsene Wenger does and they have a good relationship and maybe that is why he is waiting a bit.”

Ozil returned from a back injury over the weekend to feature for the Germany national team. The 28-year-old missed Arsenal’s previous game with West Brom but is expected to be available for their next clash.

Arsenal take on Manchester City on Sunday, kick-off is scheduled for 16:00 (GMT). The Gunners have lost four of their last five Premier League games and find themselves six points behind fourth placed Liverpool.
