Arsenal star set to feature in Per Mertesacker ‘Mertes 96’ game in Germany

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil is set to feature in a charity game for Per Mertesacker on June 3.

German outlet Sportzbuzzer report that Miroslav Klose, Serge Gnabry, Martin Harnik and Sebastian Prödl are among the other stars set to feature.

The match will be played between Mertesacker’s Foundation and that of Clemens Fritz, who announced his retirement from professional football in May.

The current teams are as follows:

Mertes 96-friends: Jörg Sievers – Christoph Dabrowski, Christian Schulz, Michael Tarnat, Per Mertesacker, Hanno Balitsch, Fabian Ernst, Otto Addo, Nebojša Krupniković, Silvio Schröter, Mike Hanke

Clemens’ team: Tim Wiese, Tim Borowski, Ivan Klasnić, Santiago García, Peter Niemeyer, Jurica Vranješ, Patrick Owomoyela, Daniel Jensen, Philipp Bargfrede, Maximilian Eggestein, Johannes Eggestein.

Still unclear: Marc Ziegler, Altin Lala, Steven Cherundolo, Daniel Stendel, Babacar N’Diaye.

Ozil also has his own charity, the ‘Özil-Foundation’ founded in 2015 to support children and young people around the world.

The Turkish origin playmaker has also been a Laureus ambassador for the last nine months and has worked with the foundation on charitable projects including helping Brazilian kids living in poverty after the World Cup.
