Arsenal playmaker Mesut Özil has revealed that he will dedicate even more time to charity projects in the future via his Instagram account.
Özil shared a picture receiving the German Football Ambassador 2015 award and thanked those who voted for him.
The 26-year-old added the following caption alongside the image: “Thank you all so much for electing me as the German Football Ambassador 2015 – This really motivates me to dedicate even more time to charity projects in the future.”
Özil won the award through an international voting process in which more than 32,000 votes were cast for 11 nominees.
Jurgen Klinsmann, coach of the United States international side, and ex-Aston Villa player Thomas Hitzelsperger, also won awards as German Football Ambassadors at the event.
Özil founded the ‘Özil-Foundation’ in 2015 to support children and young people around the world.
The Arsenal star has also been a Laureus ambassador for the last nine months and has worked with the foundation on charitable projects including helping Brazilian kids living in poverty after the World Cup.
The 26-year-old was also presented with a Laureus Sport for Good award in recognition of his work.
