Chelsea target Hakan Calhanoglu to to waive wage following ban

Bayer Leverkusen star Hakan Calhanoglu has taken the decision not to collect his salary during his four-month suspension.

Also a source close to the player recently revealed to Turkish-Football that the 23-year-old is nearing a move to Chelsea in the summer.

Per the source, several clubs from Europe are also in pursuit of Calhanoglu, who has oer two years remaining on his deal.

Calhanoglu is unable to play any professional football until next season after receiving a suspension from FIFA, according to the BBC.

However, the Turkey international has decided not to collect his salary for the duration of the suspension. Calhanoglu feels it will be unfair on Bayer Leverkusen if they are to foot the bill for his mistake.

“Bayer had nothing to do with the incident,” said the Turkey international,” Calhanoglu revealed on his Facebook page.

“The club have, however, been affected by the resulting punishment in a sporting and economical sense.

“That’s why, for me, it makes complete sense that I should not further harm the club and will therefore forgo my salary during the time of my exclusion.”

The Turkey international had been in impressive form for Leverkusen this season so far with seven goals and seven assists in all competitions.
