Drogba convinced Chelsea midfielder to consider Besiktas says agent

Didier Drogba convinced Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel to consider a move to Beşiktaş according to football agent Mesrun İzzet.

Drogba reportedly advised Mikel to make the move to Turkey and the Nigerian international had reached an agreement with the Black Eagles.

İzzet told Radyospor: “Mikel asked Drogba about his time in Turkey and was advised to make the move. Mikel wanted to play in Turkey and they reached an agreement but Jose Mourinho pulled the plug on the deal at the last minute.”

The Turkish agent also told the sports radio station that he had a mandate from Mikel’s agent to represent the player to Super League clubs.

Mikel still has another two-years remaining on his contract but he is not expected to feature regularly for the reigning Premier League champions this season.

The Nigerian international has four goals in 62 appearances for his country at senior level.

Beşiktaş were also in talks with Liverpool over Lucas Leiva over the summer transfer window as a replacement for Tolgay Arslan and Veli Kavlak who are both out injured until the turn of the year.

The Black Eagles are currently third in the league with six points after three games.
