Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson stated that he thought the red card shown to Emre Can was harsh.
Can received his first red card as a Liverpool player in the 4-1 defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates.
“I thought it was a little harsh,” Henderson is quoted as saying by the BBC.
“I felt he just tried to press him, slipped and went into the player. It is a blow that he is now suspended.”
The defeat dealt a blow to Liverpool’s hopes of finishing the season in the top four.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers also revealed that he thought Can did not deserve to be sent off and blamed the that the pitch surface.
“He is not that type of player, I think the second one in all fairness was because the surface here is wonderful surface but it is actually quite slippery and I think he tried to reach around the back with his right foot and he slips with his left foot,” Rodgers said speaking to BT Sport.
Can has one assist and one goals in 31 appearances for Liverpool this season.
The 21-year-old had only been shown four yellow cards for the Reds before the red card incident.
Can played for the Germany U21 during their 3-2 defeat against England U21 earlier this week.
