Former QPR & Blackburn defender move to Turkey collapses

Trabzonspor have released a statement confirming that talks with Chris Samba broke down at the last minute.

Samba arrived in Trabzon yesterday and was expected to complete a one-year loan move but the transfer broke down at the last stages.

The statement read: “The technical committee decided not to go ahead with the transfer following negotiations with Samba.”

Samba was greeted by a large crowd as well as reporters from the local press when he arrived in Turkey yesterday.

The experienced defender told reporters: “I am happy to be here, we want to achieve great things.”

Trabzonspor general manager Serhat Altıncı met Samba at the airport and took the defender on a tour of the Mehmet Ali Yılmaz training grounds.

Samba has previously years of Premier League experience behind him having played for both Blackburn and QPR in the past.

Trabzonspor did however, complete the transfer of AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado.
