“He seems so angry” – Arsenal legend reveals why Mesut Ozil is unhappy at north London club

Former Arsenal star midfielder Robert Pires has revealed why Mesut Ozil is currently unhappy at Arsenal.

The 29-year-old could end up leaving the Gunners for free next summer. Ozil is yet to put pen-to-paper on a new contract with the north London-based club with his deal expiring in under nine months.

According to Pires, the star playmaker is becoming increasingly frustrated at Arsenal. The former France international told SportBild that Ozil wants to be in a side competing for silverware and is angry because Arsenal are not spending enough cash.

The German star is understood up be disappointed by the Gunners transfer activity over the summer and that they do not posses a squad good enough to challenge for the title.

“Ozil is a warrior who wants to win something,” Pires told German outlet SportBild.

“To me, he seems so angry about the fact that Arsenal hasn’t put together the team with which he can make a difference.

“Arsenal have spent money only for Alexander Lacazette, €53m [£47m]. That is not enough to be at the top.”

Ozil could return to action on Thursday night when Arsene Wenger’s side take on Red Star Belgrade in the UEFA Champions League.
