Germany have never actually won the Confederations Cup before. Their highest ever finish was third in the 2005 edition of the tournament.

Can will be one of three players of Turkish origin competing – the others being Kerim Demiray of Germany and Bursaspor full-back Aziz Behich who will be representing Australia.

Behich could face Can when Australia take on Germany on Monday 19 June in what will be both sides tournament opener.
