Man City join race for Man Utd target who admires Jose Mourinho

Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho could be set to lock horns over Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu.

Manchester City have joined the race for the Turkish international defender but could face competition from Manchester United a source close to the player revealed to Turkish-Football.com.

Soyuncu’s agent Mustafa Doğru was quoted as saying: “Manchester City have made contact to us through a third party.

“Caglar is the type of defender that suits Pep Guardiola’s style and his goal is to play Premier League football but he is focused on Freiburg until the end of the season.

“We will not discuss future plans until the end of the season.”

City have been targeting a number of Turkish youngsters following the transfer of Enes Unal from Bursaspor.

Unal is currently on loan at FC Twente where he has 11 goals and two assists in all competitions this season.

Soyuncu is the latest big talent to leave the Turkish league and started his footballing career at Altinordu.

City have been closely scouting the Altinordu academy over the past few seasons and a source close to the club revealed to Turkish-Football.com that the Premier League giants also have their eye on 15-year-old goalkeeper Berk Ozer.

Altinordu are a club geared towards player development and have invested heavily in their academy system with the goal to become the first club in Turkey to field a starting line-up consisting solely of club grown footballers.

City could however, face competition for Soyuncu as cross-city rivals Manchester United have also been scouting the youngster as previously revealed by Turkish-Football.com.

Soyuncu has made no secret of his admiration for the Portuguese manager.

“I admire Jose Mourinho, not just his football but his philosophy,” Soyuncu said.

“I would like to work with him in the future.”
