Man United & Chelsea suffer blow as Man City hijack move for wonder kid target, deal nearing completion

Manchester United and Chelsea have been closely linked with a move for Basaksehir wonder-kid Cengiz Under over recent weeks.

Basaksehir manager Abdullah Avci told TRT Spor that both clubs have been keeping tabs on  Under: “Yes, it’s true there is some interest for Cengiz. It’s normal that the clubs like Tottenham and United are showing interest for him because the kid is a good footballer.”

The 19-year-old stated that he wants to join to a club of the highest calibre, naming Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona as examples.

“The league I really want to play in is the Premier League and I would also love La Liga,” Under told beIN Turkey.

“I want to play for Manchester United or Chelsea, also Barcelona or Real Madrid.”

The Sozcu newspaper actually reported that the Blues offered €7.5 million for the youngster.

Manchester City had not previously been linked with a move for Under but are now clear favourites to sign the rising star.

City sent club officials to Istanbul for talks with Basaksehir a source close to the player revealed to Turkish-Football.

The Citizens have made an offer and negotiations are expected to continue throughout the day.

Talks between the two sides have been ongoing behind closed doors for weeks and negotiations are now at an advanced stage.

Basaksehir are demanding €10m for the Turkish international and want City to loan him back for a season if the deal if completed.

A deal has yet to be agreed upon but the Istanbul minnows are confident an agreement will be reached.

The Manchester based outfit would have to loan Under out next season as he would not be granted a work permit unless the Home Office deem him an ‘exceptional talent’.

The rising star had an impressive debut season in the Super Lig, establishing himself as a first-team star.

Under played a key role in Basaksehir finishing the season as surprise runners-up and reaching the Turkish Cup final.

The Turkish international ace scored nine times and provided seven assists in all competitions.
