Man United transfer news: Besiktas boss responds to Fellaini transfer report

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini hit the headlines yesterday after reportedly rejected a contract extension.

With under 12 months remaining on his current deal, Fellaini will be free to sign a pre-contract with foreign clubs in January.

Besiktas are among one of several teams being closely linked with the Belgium international.

Black Eagles manager Senol Gunes was asked about reports that a deal has been struck with Fellaini.

Gunes told the Milliyet newspaper that he cannot speak about whether there is or isn’t an agreement in place.

The head coach did praise Fellaini but distanced himself from making any transfer claims.

“I won’t speak about Fellaini right now,” Gunes said.

“He is not my player so it would be wrong to make transfer speculation but yes he is a good player.

“This is a matter for the board and transfer committee, it isn’t like we are buying new clothes these are serious decisions.”

Besiktas are currently first in the Champions League Group G and will book a place in the next round as leaders if they pick up just a point from their next game against Porto.

Fellaini would be cup tied if he were to join Besiktas over the winter transfer window.

The 29-year-old midfielder was signed from Everton on a £27 million move during the David Moyes era in 2013.

Fellaini took a while to win over United fans but he has established himself as an important member of Jose Mourinho’s side this season – despite only making three starts.
