Manchester United betting sponsor Bwin posted a tweet welcoming Ilkay Gündoğan to Old Trafford before swiftly deleting it.
United’s official betting partner then posted a tweet containing the latest odds on whether or not the 24-year-old would make the move and have since deleted both tweets.
United manager Louis van Gaal is set to spend £200m on new players according to ESPN, and having already signed PSV forward Memphis Depay.
The 24-year-old, is reportedly one of Van Gaal’s primary targets. Both Bayern Munich and Barcelona looked to be close to signing Gündoğan last week however, both clubs were reported to be put off by his high wage demands.
Dortmund CEO Hans Joachim Watzke has previously confirmed that Gündoğan will leave the club at the end of the season.
“Gündoğan will be leaving Borussia Dortmund this summer, that is a fact. I am very confident we will see various clubs coming in for him,” Watzke told SportBild.
Gündoğan has five assists and three goals in 33 appearances for Dortmund despite spending much of the season out injured and is almost certain to leave the Bundesliga giants over the summer.
