Mourinho blocked Besiktas move for Chelsea midfielder says agent

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho blocked John Obi Mikel’s transfer to Beşiktaş according to football agent Mesrun İzzet.

İzzet stated that Beşiktaş had agreed terms with Mikel and that the Nigerian international wanted to make the move but that Mourinho did not give him the go ahead.

“Beşiktaş had initially agreed terms with Chelsea and Mikel but Jose Mourinho blocked the deal at the last minute,” İzzet told Radyospor.

İzzet told Turkish sports radio that he had a mandate from Mikel’s agent to hold talks with the Black Eagles on behalf of the 28-year-old midfielder.

Mikel still has another two-years left on his Chelsea contract but has only played six minutes of Premier League football this season.

The Istanbul giants were also in talks over bringing in Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva on a one-year loan but the transfer also stalled at the last hurdle when the Brazilian midfielder was called back up to the team.

The Eagles failed to land a central midfielder to fill in for Tolgay Arslan and Veli Kavlak both who are injured until the turn of the year.
