Southampton are already reported to have held preliminary talks with Tosun’s agent and are prepared to hold further negotiations with the reigning Turkish league champions.

The 25-year-old striker is the top goalscorer in the Turkish league and was also prolific in the Champions League and Europa League.

In fact Tosun’s volley against Benfica was voted the UEFA Champions League goal of the group stages.

The Saints could however, face competition from Tottenham who have been scouting Tosun as recently reported by Turkish-Football.

Tosun is a Turkish international player but he was born in Germany and therefore would not require a work permit to play in the Premier League.

The powerful striker rose through the youth ranks at Frankfurt before signing for Gaziantepspor and then Besiktas.

Tosun started the season as second-choice striker to Vincent Aboubakar but has exceeded expectations and is now first-choice for the Black Eagles.
