£21m Man City signing delivers injury return date

Ilkay Gundogan

Ilkay Gundogan joined Manchester City on a £21 million move mid-week but there were fears over when he would be able to make his debut due to his injury situation.

Gundogan revealed that his injury is not as serious as was believed and that he will return by the start of September.

He was quoted by the Express as saying: “I had a dislocated patella. It happened in training but it’s not as bad as it sounds. A ligament was also stretched and so they operated on it. Now I need to rest and then I hope that at the end of August or start of September I’ll be back on the field and starting a new chapter.”

The 24-year-old will miss the European Championships for Germany this summer as a result and also missed the 2014 World Cup due to injury.

Gundogan was expected to join Germany for the European Championships this summer but will miss the tournament due to injury.

The Germany international of Turkish origin has had a nightmarish season with numerous injuries. Gundogan missed 133 days due to his latest Patella injury and had seven injuries before that.

City’s latest signing joined Dortmund from Nuremberg in 2011 under the stewardship of Klopp and helped the Bundesliga giants reach the 2013 Champions League final.
