Ba has always had an impressive strike rate; 29 goals in 58 appearances for Newcastle, 40 goals for Hoffenheim but his 27 goals in all competitions for Beşiktaş was a career high for the experienced striker. Ba has never scored as many goals over the course of a single season and he put question marks over a rumoured chronic injury problem to rest playing the entire season as a first-team player – except for two weeks out with a fractured toe.
