On loan Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic scored the opening goal for Fenerbahçe in the 1-1 draw against Celtic in the Europa League yesterday.

The goal ended up taking the Yellow Canaries through the Round of 32 where they could end up drawing Markovic’s parent club Liverpool who also booked a place in the next round following a goalless draw against Sion.

Markovic scored on 39 minutes making the most of a goalkeeping error by Celtic’s Gordon to slot the ball into the back of the net.

The Yellow Canaries could have doubled their lead on more than a few occasions in the second half but a moment of madness saw Diego see red.

Diego Ribas who provided Markovic with the assist in the first half was sent off for recklessly kicking out at a Celtic player and the Scottish giants equalised soon after to give the Istanbul giants a nervy last 20 minutes.

The Serbian international has one goal and one assist in 10 appearances for the Yellow Canaries in all competitions this season.
