Arsenal captain Per Metesacker has singled out Mesut Ozil as the Gunner’s danger-man going into this seasons busy festive period.
Ozil has been in sensational form of late, and has won back-to-back Vitality Arsenal Play of the Month awards over the last two months.
Metesacker played alongside Ozil while at Werder Bremen and for the national team.
“He is vital for us. We want to get him on the ball in the final third, that is what we’re trying to do every single time,” Mertesacker was quoted as saying by the Guardian.
“Özil is the main threat and he gives us a good pass at the right moment and he can see the difference, so we try to find him.
“That is the solution for us, to expose the back four, and then he is really dangerous when he gets into that pocket and plays the ball behind.”
The 27-year-old does however, have a remarkable assist record which is the best in Europe’s top five leagues including England, Spain, Germany, France and Italy.
Özil setup both goals in the 2-1 victory over City last weekend and is almost certain to start against Southampton at the St Mary’s Stadium on Boxing day.
