Borussia Dortmund’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has warned Ilkay Gündoğan against a move to Manchester United or Liverpool.
Wazke stated that a move to England’s top tier could cut a players career short due to the physical nature of the league.
“The absolute star players do not necessarily go to England,” Wazke was quoted as saying by Bild (via Goal).
“They have not been able to celebrate a World Cup for 50 years and that will not change any time soon.
“And players know that the intensity of playing in England could cut your career short.”
Gündoğan is tied into a contract at Dortmund until 2017 after signing a contract extension at the start of the season.
The Germany international has been linked with a move to Anfield since the appointment of Jurgen Klopp as manager in place of Brendan Rodgers. Dortmund rejected an approach from Liverpool’s rivals Manchester United earlier on in the season according to the German newspaper Express.
