Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has stated that he will wait for Daniel Sturridge to recover from his injury as he did with Ilkay Gundogan at Borussia Dortmund.
Sturridge has struggled with injuries over the past two seasons but his new manager knows from experience it’s worth being patient with quality players.
“We have to patient. That’s not my best skill, to be honest, but in this case I have no other choice,” Klopp was quoted as saying by the Mirror.
“I had 15 months with Ilkay Gundogan where we had to all wait. It was his back and we had no chance to force it,” he explained. “It’s not a back problem with Daniel, but it’s the muscle.
“Out of responsibility, we have to do everything we can to give him the physical strength to be able to play Premier League football.”
Gundogan spent close to two seasons out injured with a back injury but has returned this season. The 25-year-old is in impressive form and earned himself a recall to the Germany national team.
The Germany international is tied into a contract at Dortmund until 2017 after signing a contract extension at the start of the season.
