On-loan Fenerbahce striker Emmanuel Emenike made his debut for West Ham today but was unable to prevent a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Southampton.
Yoshida put the home side ahead in the ninth minute when he made the most of Wanyama’s darting run to put the ball past Adrian in goal.
Emenike was brought on as a second half substitute and almost became an instant hero but headed Sam Byram’s cross wide.
The Nigerian international was unable to get his name on the scoresheet in the last 20 minutes to force a draw.
Fenerbahce president Aziz Yildirim revealed that the Hammers agreed to an £8.4 million release clause option for the Nigerian international striker.
The president also claimed that the Hammers are also set to pay the Yellow Canaries £760,000 in loan fees until the end of the season.
The powerful striker spent the first half of the season on loan at Al Ain scoring seven goal in 11 appearances.
