Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has been urged to make a move to Barcelona by the Germany legend Lothar Matthaus.
Ozil has been linked to the La Liga champions over the past week by the German newspaper Bild.
“It would surely be a gain for him [Ozil], since Barcelona simply is the cream of the crop, especially when it comes to attacking strategies,” Matthaus told Yahoo.
“They seem to look for someone, who can give inspiration there and strengthen the team more from the depth of midfield.”
However, the Telegraph claimed that Arsenal are ‘confident‘ Ozil will remain at Arsenal and sign a contract extension despite interest from Barcelona.
Ozil’s current deal with Arsenal expires in 2018. The Sun claims that the midfield playmaker was in talks over £160,000-a-week in deal which will keep him at Arsenal until 2019.
The 27-year-old has been in impressive form this season with six goals in all competitions as well as 17 assists in the Premier League – the highest in the league.
