West Ham boss Slaven Bilic seems to have genuinely had a good time in Turkey over the two years he spent coaching at Besitkas.
Bilic rarely misses a chance to wax lyrical about Istanbul and Besiktas football club but he even found room to praise his former rivals Fenerbahce last night on the BT Sport Europa League show.
The Croatian manager was asked what it is like as an opposition player at the Fenerbahce Sukru Saracoglu stadium after reviewing the highlights of the Yellow Canaries 2-0 Europa League Round of 32 victory over Lokomotiv Moscow last Tuesday.
“It is a big club [Fenerbahce], it is an intimidating atmosphere but as a player it is great to play against them they are a great club of course and it [Istanbul] is a great city,” Bilic said.
Fenerbahce are currently first two points ahead of Bilic’s former side but Besiktas do have a game in hand and will go top if they win their remaining matches.
Bilic coached Besiktas for two seasons and reached the Europa League quarter-finals last season beating Tottenham and knocking out Liverpool along the way.
The West Ham boss is credited with building the current Besiktas side and most of the team was signed during his stint as head coach.
