Liverpool and Manchester United have received a boost in the race to sign Ilkay Gundogan after Borussia Dortmund rubbished claims linking him with a move to Manchester City.
Spanish newspaper Sport reported that the Germany international had opted to move to the Etihad Stadium in the summer.
However, Dortmund responded to the tweet posted by Sport stating, “Really? We should know about that, shouldn’t we? Truth is, we don’t know anything about that.”

Gundogan is currently tied into a contract at Dortmund until 2017. The Bundelsiga side will have to decide whether to sell him or risk losing the midfield playmaker on a free transfer if he refuses to sign a contract extension.
Dortmund sit in second place in the Bundesliga with 48 points in 21 games. The Bundesliga giants take on Porto in the UEFA Champions league this week.
Gundogan has six assists and three goals in 32 appearances for Dortmund this season.
