Lazar Markovic continues to be a source of controversy for Liverpool. Reds legend Alan Hansen believes that the club owners may be reluctant to splash out this summer after a series of expensive transfers such as splashing out £20 million for the Serbian international failed to have the desired effect.
“So the problem he might have is that the owners have invested so much already, will they be reluctant to do it again?” Hansen was quoted as saying in the Daily Star.
“They have spent a lot – £20m on Lazar Markovic, and then he was sent out on loan.
“You could say they need to spend £100m, but where does that get you in today’s market?
“If they are going to have a real go it needs to be more like £200m – but you can’t just snap your fingers and solve the problem.”
The young winger joined the Reds from Portuguese giants Benfica as one of the most promising players in Europe.
Markovic struggled to settle in under the stewardship of Brendan Rodgers last season but he was played out of position for most of the season.
The 21-year-old may still have a future at the club as current manager Jurgen Klopp is reported to be pleased with the progress he has shown on-loan at Fenerbahce.
The Yellow Canaries are however, expected to make an offer for the Serbian international in the summer as he has already settle in and become a fan favourite at the club.
