Villarreal came from two goals behind to force a 2-2 draw against league leaders Barcelona at the El Madrigal stadium yesterday.
Barca will be a tad disappointed with relinquishing a two goal lead but they did manage to extend their unbeaten streak to an unprecedented 39 match games.
Arda Turan started in central midfield alongside Ivan Rakitic and Sergio Busquets and the trio put on an impressive first half display.
Ivan Rakitic and Neymar scored in the first half to give Barca an early lead but things turned south rather quickly following Gerard Pique and Arda Turan being taken off early in the second half.
Former Bursaspor striker Cedric Bakambu scored before Jeremy Mathieu scored an own goal resulting in the draw.
Turan almost scored an own goal in the first half but his mishit struck the post instead the back of his own net.
The bearded winger then picked up a yellow card for a rash challenge but worked tirelessly closing down the opposition and made the joint highest number of interceptions (2).
Turan also passed impeccably once again achieving a 95 percent success rate. Barca missed the Turkish international’s tenacity after he was brought off and struggled to cope with the Villarreal onslaught.
Barcelona had previously won all 16 games in which Turan had featured this season since making his move from Atletico Madrid.
