Mesut Ozil has stated that he is ‘delighted’ with his performance in a deeper midfield role.
The 27-year-old played in an unfamiliar role during Germany’s impressive 4-1 victory over Italy.
Germany boss Joachim Low played a back three, with the Arenal playmaker sitting further back to counteract the anticipated press from Italy.
“As a ‘sixer’ you do have more touches to the ball than usual,” Ozil told Kicker (via ESPN).
“And I believe that I’ve done a good job and also showed what I can do. That’s why I am delighted.”
The World Cup winners were in ruthless form and were ahead after 24 minutes via a strike from Tony Kroos. Mario Gotze doubled the German’s lead shortly before half time.
The young defender Hector put the Germans 3-0 ahead after 59 minutes while Ozil got on the score sheet in the 75th after converting from the penalty spot.
Ozil has 19 assists and seven goals in 38 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions this season.
